Default Mystery Woman

Hey,

This is the preview of my 2nd portrait shoot. It was a rainy day, but we still went ahead with the shoot.. It helped coz the lighting was just perfect and we got some really good shots.

I would appreciate it if you could comment on
1. Composition : Is it well composed? Placing the subject in the center was breaking the rule of thirds and I did that on purpose coz i now understand that rule very well.
2. Exposure
3. Framing
4. Editing
5. Focus
- Unlike my previous shoot, where my Camera's LCD wasnt working and which resulted in some focus issues, this time i was careful with the focus. Is it good enough?

Any other comments are welcome.. You may visit the link below and comment there as well..

Hi locojain from Sydney, where do you live? I live in Darlinghurst!

First off, just wanted to mention that the forum rules indicate posting only one critique thread/photo per day so thought I"d mention this just in case. Don't want you to wonder where your thread/threads may be just in case they get deleted by the mods. Also, they want EXIF data with every photo (it helps others see your set up and can advice you better).

I really like this shot. I love the colours and her hair's tiny movement in the wind. I can't help but think, though, if the image would be better if cropped a little tighter? Even try to see if you like panorama or portrait? Also, she's very much on the centre and I think applying the rule of thirds would make it more 'playful'.

Which beach did you take this at?

Kilroy was here. I like the second photo MUCH better than this one. Although if you were going for the Kilroy was here look, you nailed it. Focus is still soft.

Crop the top and bottom so that it gives the panoramic shot effect on the photo. That's what I meant

Also, JF Sanders is right, the second photo is better because it has character and there, more vibrant as an image. This one really isn't so much of a mystery, it's just a woman half-hiding behind a veil an object, esp because she's right on dead centre of the photo.

I don't think you're breaking the rules because you've centred the subject on the photo. Most people don't know what the rules of thirds are and centre the subjects, esp in portraits. I do think that if you had applied the rules of thirds, it would create a little bit more of a mystery.

Ah yes, Maroubra. You know we pass by there a few times but we always go for Coogee because I think it's better for families. Must visit Maroubra and see what's there!

As graciousness said the second one has a dynamic and is more interesting to the eye imho.
