You didnt do anything wrong!
You'll see by taking closer looks at your own photographs and seeing what yu like o dont like and thereby asking something more specific. It will help you to see what you may be needing to improve on with each photo you take. There are no wrongs becaue with each step you take you learn something new! One thing I did notice is where the crop is taking off the top of his head. I do like the colors and his expression!

I am new also and that being said I may be totally wrong… But I would crop and draw the child’s face in some, then make sure his eyes and face was to focal point in the pic. I would also bring out the true color in his eyes. Or even go with a B/W.
