Default 1st planned photo shoot...

Hi everyone, Some of you may have already seen this photo as I posted it a while back in the share section. My daughter participated in World Thinking Day for girl scouts. Each troop picked a section of the world to learn about. Maggie's troop picked Japan. As soon as I saw her kimono I knew I needed to do a shoot. This is the first planned in advance shoot I have done. Went out and bought and ironed black sheets, bought the flowers, did up her hair etc. This was taken with natural light coming in from windows.

I guess my main question is how is the lighting? I think this one came out good but would like to know if it could be improved. A few of the shots did have some shadows. Would also love it if you would like to check out my flckr page and comment on the shoot as a whole. If ya want.

And another question is what do you think of the mood? I saw this pose online somewhere so decided to copy. Does it do anything? Too blah? Again if you would like there are more on flckr.

Thanx for looking and any and all comments, critique welcome. Let it fly. I want to learn.

Default Hello Sheila...

Personally, I don't think there is ANYTHING "blah" about this photo. I think you used the natural lighting in a very positive way. It's not overpowering anywhere on your daughter. I feel natural light reflecting off of the light colored kimono she's wearing really complements her and your project. Any more lighting could possibly become too harsh. Great job and TFS!

Have a nice day...

Robert

i think it looks great, lighting doesn't need anything added, good exposure, but one thing that i noticed is that her back isn't straight. The image as it is is great, but if she had pulled her shoulders back and straightened her spine, it would be a stunner

the lighting is very nice. I checked out the rest of the set and I think the rest of the set is equally as good. Like a previous poster mentioned, maybe a bit straighter back but a pretty minor point. Very nice work

Nice!

My only suggestion would have been a reflector behind her, opposite the window.

One minor nit would be that her hair gets lost on the BG just a bit which could have been helped with a reflector or hair light.

I adore this type of lighting...well done! Agreed with Jim that a reflector would have helped separate her hair from the b/g, but otherwise this is lovely.

I also think this would be amazing in BW, the mood really fits. I'm a big sucker for moody BW's.

Thanx corvus2606! I think you are right. I told her we would most likely be doing this shoot again. I will most definately try that.

Thanx Jim! You are absolutely right. She has been warned that we will be doing shoot again. Will recruit my other daughter to hold the reflector.
