Default Building up my Port

This is one of a set I did for a neighbor who wanted to send some pictures to a friend. I did the session free of charge to build my port. My question is simple, but any critique is welcome.

Here's the rest of the set: Terra

Is this port worthy?

EXIF:
Nikon D40
ISO - 400
f/5.6
1/80
FL: 55mm
Flash: Yes

No you could do better. Try getting a 1:2 lighting ratio on either side of the subject.

At the time all I had was my on camera flash. I recently picked up a dummy slave. When you say 1:2 on either side am I correct in assuming that the light on the side would be the more powerful one and my on camera would just fill?

I actually think it's a decent image, but you need to work on your post skills. Here I did a levels adjustment and a little work on the eyes.

If it were mine I'd probably do a bit more to it. I think the skin tones are bit off

Her expression looks like she is in the middle of smiling or changing expressions, if that makes any sense lol. The angle her head is at and the crop make it feel very tight. Either go in and get a headshot or stand back and get a full body shot.

@sk66 - I like what you've done. thanks for the retouch. I'll have to spend more time on it.

@photocist - She was very nervous and it was hard to get her to smile even that much at times. I see what you mean by the image being tight thanks.

Yes, roughly 1:2. Don't use on camera flash is what my main point is.

I'm saving up for an SB-600 or SB-700. Right now I have no other way of triggering my slave.

I agree in that you need to work more in PP. It may take some extra time, but it's well worth it to play around and see what looks good.
