Default Dress up...

Hi there,

This is a photo of my daughter in 'dress up' clothes. I have done some PP work on it (am only beginning to learn about it). I sharpened it, cropped it, tried to change the contrast a little... it still looks almost 'dusty' to me. What have I missed?

0911280140_edit

Camera Sony DSC-W210
Exposure 0.008 sec (1/125)
Aperture f/5.8
Focal Length 21.4 mm
ISO Speed 320
Exposure Bias 0 EV
Flash Off, Did not fire
X-Resolution 72 dpi
Y-Resolution 72 dpi
Software Paint.NET v3.5.7

Thanks in advance

It's very noisy. I don't know if your software is accentuating it or what, but it is really distracting. Usually you don't see noise like that at an ISO rating that low.

Thanks for that. I must have changed something without meaning to!! I'll see if I can reduce the noise...

Is this better?

I feel like I have lost the detail of her face around her eyes and nose...

The first one looks too grainy (maybe you over-sharpened it?) and the second one looks overly processed with a blur. Can you post the original? What editing software are you using?

Agreed that the first is very noisy and the 2nd is way overprocessed. I'd also love to see a SOOC if you have it.

I'm using PaintNET to process things at this stage.

Thanks for your help - as you can see, I definitely need it!! I"m looking forward to seeing what you all come up with!

Other than some color saturation and maybe some gamma brightness issues, I like the original image best. Although, I have to say, unlike the others, I don't mind the "blur" of the second photo you posted. It has a slightly dreamy look to it which I find a bit endearing, especially when children are the subject.

By "using PaintNET to process things at this stage" - do you mean this image was processed using PaintNET? It's still very noisy, much more than it should be for that ISO. I'd still like to see a true SOOC with no editing whatsoever.
