Default My first time posting

I attempted a photoshoot with my stepdaughter today. First time around went terrible and got 2 shots out of about 50 that were not too blurry. 2nd time around I got about 8 out of 40. So all in all I ended up with 10 shots that weren't terrible. I'd LOVE CC on these photos, but I am mostly looking for CC on Focus and Exposure. I know she wasn't dressed and posed etc. the best. I am struggling to nail focus. I just went manual the end of December and just got serious about learning and figuring out photography about 2 weeks ago. Here is what I have done the past 2 weeks with my photography.......

Thank you for looking!

Hi,
Looking at your photos I'd say you have some excellent shots. The volume I take is high and my keepers reasonably low. The amount that work and are 'technically' good goes up with experience. I found that when I first started I took hundreds, hoping that if you threw enough darts, you'd eventually hit a bullseye. More often now, I have a firm idea before I go out what I'm looking to shoot, or the type of thing I'm after. I'm still relatively new to photography, but already understand that you never stop learning and the instances that happy accidents (when a good or great shot occurs for you) definitely goes up with practice.

welcome to dps! folks will have a hard time commenting and giving advice about things like exposure and focus if you don't include the exif data.

i looked at your photos- couldn't see larger versions, for some reason- so just the small ones. i think some of them are quite nice. you are clearly trying to keep the background simple and fill the frame, and that's a big part of what makes a good picture. i also like the shooting angles.

you don't say if you are using manual focus as well. for a pretty stationary subject like a tiny, sleeping, baby, i personally wouldn't- i'd use autofocus with one focus point and move it around with the keypad at the back of the camera till i have it on the eyes.

why not post more about how you took the pics )the exif) and then people can comment more about focus- blurriness can be the result of so many factors. also, post one photo directly into your message so that folks can see if without clicking and can see it nice and large. i use flickr b/c fb really degrades your images.

Thank you both of you for your responses!

I did not include the EXIF info due to showing so many pics. I can say the facebook pics I just wanted to give an idea of what I've done since Feb 12th The newborn pics were Feb 12th and the others followed as practice. The ones of my stepdaughter in the black sweater with pink shirt were taken yesterday. I am trying to grow. It is nice to hear poses and angles are ok.

I use auto focus. I can barely remember to mess with SS aperture and ISO let alone manually focusing! LOL As I said i went manual back in December but didn't really start trying to do anything like portraits until 2 weeks ago in manual. This is very new to me and I feel like I'm learning a whole new language!

I do not have a flickr account but I might need to look into one I do have my blog where you can see them large, maybe I should have posted that link instead?

My next post I will go ahead and post one directly on the post. My other photo forum allows more then one photo and I struggle with only posting one pic LOL

If you are interested in looking here is my blog and you can look at the pics bigger.

Might want to read the rules to make it easier for people to give a critique.

Sorry. I know this wasn't the best place to post this post now. I just found the forum yesterday and my next post will be better and more following the rules Just getting my feet wet and introducing myself I guess.
