Default Black and white

Feb. 25, 2011 by meetooo, on Flickr

Camera Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS
Exposure 0.006 sec (1/160)
Aperture f/2.8
Focal Length 50 mm
ISO Speed 400
Exposure Bias 0 EV
Flash On, Fired

I'm curious about the black and white conversion. The original had some off skin tons do to my getto flash bounce, that I just couldn't seem to fix. I do like it in black and white, I'm just not sure I did it right or if it could have been done better. I'm just learning how to use photo shop elements and haven't had much practice converting pictures to black and white other then on auto. :X. Feel free to add anything else I did wrong... like not combing her hair first and forgetting to wipe her nose. LOL

I think this is a wonderful image. The eyes are incredibly expressive. The B&W conversion looks pretty good. i would not have combed her hair and as for the nose, I am on the fence. I think I would have, but the hair and the nose show us so much about her personality.

I would be proud to have taken this image.

Thank you I'm never sure how to do the black and white. I liked it but....well..... it's my kid. It could be a cell phone pic and i would like it. LOL

Oh, she's so cute! I love her expression! Excellent focus and DoF! I definitely like her hair the way it is. Lovely catchlights in her eyes too.

For black and white conversions, I usually convert to grayscale and then play with levels to get more contrast. That's just me though. There are other ways to do it that are probably better, but I haven't been able to figure them out yet. Maybe someone else will post how they do it. So far, this method has worked for me. I do kind of like the soft look of yours though. Great photo, I love it!

P.S. I took a look at your flickr and wow, you have cute kids!
