Okay so this is my first time posting anything, and I would really like some critique on how to make this better.

I'm alright with the messy face and the angle. My biggest concern is that the lighting is so drastically uneven it creates problems. It is far too bright on the right side of his face—harsh, even, because his skin is blown out. On the left side, his eye is in shadow because the socket creates a natural depression, ripe for shadow. The blowout is caused by the fact that the camera sensor is trying to expose for his entire face—the center and focus of the frame—and so it brings up the exposure on everything so that the left side is not in shadow. Of course, this means that the right side is overexposed, creating white patches on his skin. To avoid this problem, create even lighting by turning yourself and his face more to the right, so the sun can fall evenly on his skin.

Cute kid.

1) I don't like messy faces unless the kids are obviously eating. This is a mistake I make ALL the time with my kids. LOL
2) it looks really noisy to me what was your ISO set to?
3)lighting like the other poster mentioned.

Now just for you, I LOVE his eyes! How adorable.

My kids always have messy faces too LOL that I notice AFTER I get the cute shot!!

I noticed lots of noise as well. I actually noticed the noise before I noticed the lighting.
