Default is this color off?

Hey guys! Id appreciate any feed back on this shot from my son's cake smash! The color seems off to me on many of them and im not sure why! It was shot in my kitchen directly facing a window. Should I have angled away from the window and put a silver reflector on the other side you think? When I took it it was more under exposed than I wanted, so I did up that a bit. I probably should have moved closer, but there was a few sunspots on the floor next to the window I was trying to avoid. Also, for next time I do a smash ~ is this too plain with no props? Thanks! Any C & C is appreciated!

Exposure 0.005 sec (1/200)
Aperture f/2.2
Focal Length 35 mm
ISO Speed 250

Attached the original to show the difference in exposure!

Allison, cute shot, but because of all the differences in the monitors that people are working on (flat screens, laptops, CRTs, calibrated, uncalibrated, etc) I think if you ask 10 people about the color you're apt to get 10 different answers. Right now on my laptop, it looks like it's on the bright side of OK, but I don't trust anything I see on my laptop.

I think it is an adorable shot. I am a bit of a neophyte so take my comments lightly but I think the WB is a bit off. His flesh color seems a bit to white (not much) I would think that a Gold reflector would provide just the right amount of color back into the shot. Please someone else correct me (as I am learning to) if Silver would make more sense but I would think that silver would not add the slight skin warmth I think it needs.

ahhh... gotcha! On my screen it looks like the background is a bit blueish, but the skin is a little orangish.. LOL! I see what you are saying though, I guess I could print it off to see what it would print like. When you say on the bright side of OK, do you think I have brightened it up too much? Thanks for the response! Is there any other advice, tips, etc you would give me for next time?

Interesting. If he is orange on your screen I can see why you would think a silver reflector. I calibrated my screen and he looks a bit on the white side. That is why it is so difficult to ask about colors when everyone's screens are not calibrated or not the same.

LOL thats funny, I was thinking the skin looks too orange already.. haha! But I guess that's what autofocus (Vinny?) was saying about different monitors looking differently. Mine is not calibrated, so I have no idea! LOL!

LOL I keep posting at the same time, or right after and missing what you are saying! LOL! Thanks for your input... I see you are calibrated, so yours may be more correct.

Kind of what i'm talking about, what you see may not be what others are seeing

Always worth a try, but don't be surprised if your printer profiles not match your screen profiles

Again, it's what I see on this crummy laptop...please take my comment with a grain of salt

As far as what you can do better, in fairness, I think there's just too many variables and unknowns for us to try to give meaningful advice from a 10,000 foot vantage point.

Exposure on the little guy in the SOOC looks great. You might want to just dodge the background to whiten it on a separate layer and then add some contrast.
