The crop bothers me a bit. I don't like that it just cuts off at the ankles.

A couple of things I noticed, apart from the chopped off ankles....
There seems to be something out of focus in the foreground - grass or something, its a bit distracting.
The pose of this couple being right in the centre of the photo is very confrontational which, given that they are smiling, I am sure is not the intended effect here. I notice that there is a path that they seem to be on. Perhaps you could try backing them up the path and then capture them walking along the path, stand off to one side so they don't look like they'll walk over the top of you. Try to have them walking into space in the shot eg, if they are walking from left to right(desirable) them put them on the one thirds line on the left with some of the track showing on the right and in front of them. As it stands at the moment it looks like you just got a couple of people to stand amongst the trees and hold hands, they are not actually doing anything.
Also, if you shoot them as they are walking along they do not necessarily need to be looking at the camera, if they are holding hands they could be looking at each other - it would tell a better story.
Hope this helps

Well it has been pointed out to you that the missing feet is definitely an issue.
Also the placement of the couple. Encourage people to adopt a different pose, not just standing there like they are here. Also they ought to be close together and partially overlapping and angled more for added interest IMHO. I am only just delving into capturing people and know the challenges you will have.
Search "how to pose couples" and you will be amazed at the multitude of information out there. And a great learning curve.

Is this any better? They don't have feet because their shoes were covered in mud and they didn't want them in the picture. Every single picture has them without feet...oops! Darn it. Well, obviously I'm not a professional and these pics were just a favor. Now I know!

the cropped version is stronger. I like the post toning. Nothing wrong with shooting in full auto!
Maybe the slightest twist to the right to make it appear straighter...
nice shot
