Taken with my new camera, Nikon D3100 this is a self portrait. I set it up with a tripod and self timer. Had to have my mom actually press the button in order to get the focus!
Let me know what you think. I want to take more...............

Thanks Vince, yes for some reason I am having trouble loading it off Flickr. When trying to attach the photo, I have put the URL where it can be seen on Flickr but some some reason I am having difficulty getting it to work.??

I just liked your facebook page, thanks for telling me about it!

Hilary, here's the flickr procedure:
1) double click your image to enlarge it
2) click on Share This
3) grab the HTML/BBcode and click the radio button for BBCode
4) copy and paste the code into your post

That should work

I think the composition is okay. If those windows/doors are wider, you might want to take a couple steps back and bring a bit more of the door into the frame. The empty space at the right, along with the leading lines would direct the viewer to you, the subject and make the image a bit more interesting and dynamic.

You seem kind of flat and gray in this, which makes me think you might be a bit under exposed (no pun intended regarding the amount of skin showing ) Looking at the EXIF data (which the mods would ask you to copy/paste with your image here) it looks like this was shot using the camera's "portrait" setting. You might want to play with the metering and instead of using the matrix setting, use spot metering and make sure the focus point is on your face. That way, the camera will make sure you're exposed properly and if the background behind you blows out, so be it.

I agree with above, but have a few other things...

You are a very beautiful woman and you can see it in this photo and you had a great concept going
one of the things that i think is a little wrong, but also knowing its a selfie and appears you are just starting out (58shutter count), is that there is a lack of all post production...
the composition isnt bad, its just a tad off... you actually do have the rules ofthird in your favor and you are also using lines quite well, but you chopped off the top of your hair

the flash does not help you out at all here, and *the tan lines distract as well

as someone who shoots quite a bit of maternity, i love the fact that you did this type of pose and its becoming one of my faves as well as clients for how you have the shirt hiding the bare necessities but bringing out the beauty and reason behind the shot

i recommend redoing the shot... i can give you some recommendations for the actual.

my first concern is the B&W conversion. As IABoomer points out, it is flat and muddy. That's the showstopper for me...i'm not even worrying about composition or lighting until the conversion gets dialed it.

Thanks everyone!
Yes I am completely new to digital photography although have a solid background in realistic drawing as well as photography using film so post production is completely null at this point-although I want to learn!
Everyone gave me some great ideas and I cant wait to do more shots. We just got back (I live in Italy and we were at my home in Boston)....
As soon as I recover from jetlag, and read the requirements for posting in the critique section (sorry about that) I will be taking more shots. I appreciate everyone taking the time to look at my photograph!!!
