Default Salvage work

Here is a shot of a few of the "Girls". Light is only from a coke machine on camera left. I know 1.7 dosent give enough DOF for 3 in the shot, but there was no light and I am not that happy with the higher iso capabilities of my camera. Another challenge was getting 3 drinking girls to not make faces.

Exif data

Camera Sony DSLR-A300
Exposure 0.025 sec (1/40)
Aperture f/1.7
Focal Length 50 mm
ISO Speed 800
Exposure Bias 0 EV
Flash Off, Did not fire

question: As the color version is horrible and white balance near impossible with the red/white coke machine light plus some high noise I went to black and white.

How is the black and white conversion? ( I have little experience with bw conversion)
is it an acceptable "rescue"?

I think it's a good rescue. Brings focus to their smiling faces. I think they'd like the picture. I know I would.

Is there a way to bring in more light and detail to their hair?

I was working from the RAW file so Ill see what I can do, maybe adjust some of the color sliders to bring out some hair detail from the 2 brunettes. The light also drops off fast from left to right, maybe I can do a different adjustment layer and use a gradient mask to even out the "hi-key" a bit?

I'd like to see that. Sounds like a good idea to me.
