Default Armless man in Hong kong

I've recently spent a few days in Hong kong and I've had my camera on my side pretty much the whole time so I do have a lot of photos I'm fond of but I still got a lot to learn so please feel free to come with any critique no matter how harsh it is.

I starting out posting this which is one of my favourites from the first days. What I've done with the picture so far is that I've cropped away a part of the bottom part to not have to much going on and to try and get the spectator to focus on the man writing in chinese with his toes and I also felt that there was more of a feeling in the picture when I turned it black and white instead of colours.

How could I have improved this shot? Is the aperture level good? Does the slightly slow shutter speed add to the feeling or is it interrupting it?

ISO 800
Focal length 32mm
Aperture f/4.2
Shutter speed 1/20sec
Nikon D40
No flash fired

Best thing about HK was that I managed to get a new Nikon D7000 with me home, quite an upgrade from my old D40 and I cant explain how much I like the D7000 after just a few hours of shooting with it.

I like the picture. The slow shutter speed adds to the emotion the picture invokes. You see a man that seems to be outcast by society. No one seems to want to look at him for fear of being ostracized as well even though all the man wants is someone to listen to him or pay attention to him for a brief moment in their supposed busy life.

I think the only thing you could have done to improve this was get more of the writing so it's more obvious that he was writing with his feet.

Great shot overall.
