Default First portraits lights

My beautiful step-daughter was so kind to let me try out some portrait shots with my new soft boxes. This was one of her favorites I took. Some PP done to it for skin blemishes (teens).

What I want to know, is the lighting correct (too light, too dark), over all color of the portrait and does this pose work?

Thanks

Exposure 0.025 sec (1/40)
Aperture f/2.8
Focal Length 50 mm

Oh, she's lovely, what a great model to work with!

To answer your questions:

Lighting and exposure: Exposure is excellent; lighting looks okay, a bit flat but you do have nice catchlights. Where did you have the lights/softboxes set up and at what power? I might have brought in the one camera right a bit closer to create larger catchlights, and moved the one camera left further away and more behind her to create some shadowing.

Overall color: Skin tones look a little yellow. Easily fixed in post. I LOVE that you left her freckles and skin texture showing while getting rid of the blemishes, well done!

Pose: Love the pose, very sweet - but the supertight crop isn't working for me. I don't mind cropped heads (I'm a chronic headchopper, lol), but the chopped chin and her wrist/hand on the side of her face look weird. Was the crop in-camera or in post?

Thanks for the response. The picture is not cropped in PP, that was in camera. I have tried to cool it down a little bit so it is not as yellow.
It is funny you mentioned her freckles, she wanted me to get rid of them. lol

I really like it! I do agree with Susan that the crop is a little tight, particularly the bottom of the frame seems really close to her lip. But I love the DoF, and great job keeping her skin natural looking. She is very pretty, and I'm glad you left her freckles in. Nice photo!

Probably vertical......

Thanks everyone for the responses. I will try and get her to pose again so I can get some more pictures of her (if I can get her to put her cell phone away that is),and try some vertical shots.

My 2 cents.

The background color doesn't work for me. Her right eye looks (very slightly) softer than the left one and her nose isn't balanced.

I like the background colour change LoveDSLR, but the nose now looks very wide and flat, which is not how it is. Judging by the original photo its a slender nose which is only unbalanced because it is not directly front on, it's just perspective.
