Default Pretty Face III

Hi again,

I want to thank all those who have commented on my "pretty face" series. To be honest all your comments were really helpful and made me improve. I am now cautious about focus and framing and also the pros of photoshop. Really thanks a ton to you folks.

Well this is the 3rd photo of the "pretty face" series, which I believe has a better focus than the previous ones.
I would like to know what you think of it. If any thoughts cross your head regarding this picture, then please convert it into a comment.

I request critique on.

1. Framing : Is this picture well framed comapared to others

Pretty Face II

Pretty Face

2.Composition: I was experimenting with the facets of the shooting a portrait and I
tried to shoot only half of the face and make it a bit more appealing and different and not so mundane. was i successful at it?
3. Exposure:
4. FOCUS : Does this picture have a good focus? or does it lag behind on some aspects of focus?

Exif data

Exposure 0.003 sec (1/400)
Aperture f/2.2
Focal Length 50 mm
ISO Speed 100

Creator Tool Adobe Photoshop Lightroom

Please please do let me know what you think about it..All your comments are welcome, even if they are harsh and severely critical

When I looked through your flickr, I thought this one was definitely the best in terms of focusing (something I hammered you on in a previous post ).

Having nailed focus here, you really helped the image along.

I like your efforts to be different and try something new and not typical. It helps, even though the whole "half face" isn't all that out there.

I like your almost colorless processing and the tones in general. I like that her eyes are not looking into the camera, adds something.

I still have a bit of an issue with her chin being a bit cut off, but others may not care.

Great use of DoF though I'm biased since I like bokeh a lot!

all in all, a good effort. I think it's one of the better ones of your 'close up' series.

PS very pretty girl!

EDIT: And move the damn logo... it's right on a relevant part of the image. Left corner would be better. Details!

I agree that this is the best of the series, Loco. The composition brings me immediately to the eye, which is clear and sharp. I also like the way she is looking to the side, making the viewer curious about what she is reacting to that we don't see.

I don't mind the chin crop or the half face (though I do wonder if a bit less right-in-the-middle of the nose and lips would be better -- I'd have to see that to decide!) All in all, you've done a great job with this one. Beautiful model, beautiful image!

By the way, I love the thoroughness and clarity of your critique questions. Many posters are vague in this section -- What do you think of this image? -- but you have a very focused series of questions, making it easy to address your concerns.

TFS!

I like the composition, eye sharpness, focus and muted colour. The only thing I would have done would be to spend a bit more time on removing some of the blemishes on the face using the spot removal/healing brush. Doesn't ruin it for me, just might add that last bit to make it perfect. overall, great capture and TFS.

Thank you all of you wondefrul people..

@big Fuzzy : Thanks a lot for your comments and views. I am happy that you like it. and yea i think i wud agree that the focus here is lot better than the rest of the photos. i love bokeh's too but since this was shot against a wall there is no way i could have got bokeh in this picture..

@Eileen D- hey thanks to you too for your generous comments. i do think that her not lookin at the camera makes a lot of impact. Oh yea its better to be clear about what you want to gain from this whole exercise, or it just ends up being "just another post". I've seen a lot of posts with just "wdyt" questions

@daddyoproductions- ur suggestion is really helpful.. I was actually thinking to do some retouching to it and make it more appealing.. i never used to do any "Photoshoping" to my images, but have started to do it lately after recommendations from users like you and it works great.

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions.

Untitled-1.jpgExposure seems ok, but a bit grey...could use a levels adjustment...I think that might be why I'm not loving the desaturation...
Focus is very good. Great use of shallow DOF to bring attention to the eye. I think you could have done a little better if you had gotten a bit closer...would have made DOF even shallower and blurred the foreground a bit more.
Composition is a bit loose or too tight....IMO a tighter comp would bring more focus to the eye and allowed for a better composition placing the eye at a strong point. This would also eliminate some of the "dead space" as well. This is a plus and a minus..The space to the side for the eye to look into creates a tension as to "what is she looking at, what is she thinking"... To emphasize that I think looser a landscape crop might benefit more. I think part of the issue is also the intent to get a "1/2 face" portrait with too much emphasis on exactly "1/2"....
If the friggin' attachments would work I'd show you an example of what I mean...
