Arrow Overplayed maternity shot - still love it!

I've always gotten a kick out of the random obsession w/ pickles and pregnant women, so when my wife finally got me to take some maternity shots of her (on her due date), I had to do it. And even though I kept the lighting very simple( one sb600 bounced), I really like the end result of this shot.

I tried a new style of PP (including some D&Bing) and would love to get some feedback!

A great fun shot, would've liked to see more of the pickle though - can't really tell what it is without the hints.

I agree with Ngai.. Fun shot, but she could be yawning! Lighting looks spot on for a nice clean simple shot. I think I might have got her to sit on some cushions to raise her a little.. The black line on the background bisects at an awkward place, it would have been better to not have it at all.. How are you at cloning?

Thanks for the replies guys! I appreciate the suggestions. The pickles we were using were the tiny kind but that was all we had. I actually already lengthened the pickle so it was more noticeable. LoL. And I didn't really even notice the black board; I should about to easily get that out. Thanks!

I chuckled. My wife is pregnant as well, so we have pickles with just about every meal. Gross.

Fun shot. I vastly prefer it over the standard fare of creep show maternity shots like the hands creating the heart over the belly or the guy kneeling and kissing the belly like some kind of holy relic. Nice job.

neat shot idea. My only note besides MORE PICKLE would be so tug her shirt down so the "got pickles?" wording is more front to the lens. You are losing the G and the ? as little bit

Where is the ice cream?! jk. although it could be fun to have as a prop as well. I'm pregnant right now which is why that is where my mind goes. Fun shot! I recently attempted self portraits of "barefoot and pregnant" staged in the kitchen. I agree with the other feed back re: not being able to really see the pickle. If you still have the chance you could try including the pickle jar... a photo of her plucking one out etc.. you could have a lot of fun with using that as a prop. Also, agree about the shirt getting to see the full wording clearly would be awesome but I"m sure it could also be tricky with the additional lady curves we (ehem pregnant ladies across the globe) all get while preggers. The Lighting and concept in this pic are really fun!

Just to say Jacob, I like the PP here. Good use of vignette.

Lol surprisingly my wife never cared for pickles even when pregnant. Her only "weird" craving was candy. She was obsessed w/ Nerds. And I definitely prefer the fun shots over the standard creepy ones also! (not saying I haven't done them before)

Surprising, that shirt would not stay down! I tried adjusting it a few times and in the end I just gave up. That belly had a mind of it's own!

I actually had another concept for a shot w/ pickles dunked in ice cream, but when were taking these shots we didn't have any ice cream and just ran out of time after. And you said it, tricky for sure!
