Default newbie

I am new to DPS and the digital photography world. I am looking to learn how to take better pictures and have fun doing it. Any pointers regarding this picture would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Maybe just me, but I don't see the image. Seems to happen frequently with thumbnail attachments (vs. directly posting your image).

I'm not huge on colorization but the contrast here is not that stark, it fits. This is a nice, crisp portrait of a fine looking boy. I can't see anything wrong with it.

Yeah, it's a really nice pic, but I'm not a fan of part colour/part B&W, either.

I like the composition.

I am not a fan of the selective color either.

Thanks everyone for the comments. Not sure why not alot of people dislike the B/W with
color but I see that comment being made often. This was my first post and one of my best pictures if not the best i have taken, in my opinion. I ill post some other pictures soon so I can learn a little something from everyone. Thanks again.

It's a very nice image! His eyes are nice and sharp, and you've got great catchlights in them. I love his expression too. Part of the reason I don't like selective coloring, is that it emphasizes whatever is colored; it pops out. So if the colored part is not the subject (which is often the case), it is distracting. In this photo, his eyes are excellent, I love them. But because the backpack is blue, my eyes are immediately drawn to the backpack, not the eyes. I hope that makes sense. It's a super cute picture, I would just personally rather see it in full B&W.

It is great except for the selective color. It is taking away from his beautiful face. No need to spot color, it adds nothing.
