Traci, when a digital image goes to pure white it is near impossible to recover. Some very extensive cloning, and a lot of patience might be an option, but no guarantee how it'll come out. Not knowing how you shot it I really can't figure out what caused it..lens flare maybe?? Did you shoot it through a window? Sorry for the less than positive news

I did shoot it through the screen door. It was way too cold for this mama to go outside!! School is cancelled again tomorrow, maybe I will actually step out the door to take a few pics and I can get a better one. Thanks for the input!!

OK, that may answer it..either some reflections off the glass, or steamed glass from her breath

It IS possible to fix it in photoshop, or at least make it look considerably better, but it would be fairly difficult and/or time consuming. The entirely washed out portions are usually non-recoverable.
The problem with editing this photo is that this white reflective glare affects a large portion of detail you want to keep. So when editing the white glare portions you'd also be editing the detail underneath in ways you might not wish. Getting rid of the glare while making the detail of the photo still seem natural and unaffected by editing would be a challenge. -Brian |

![]() this is what came out of my 'brave' edit. ![]() i selected the right cheek and put it in another layer and flipped it horizontally and aligned it with the left cheek using the nose as the anchor. added another layer and with eyedropper tool clicked on the skin nearest where it starts to get white and with a soft brush opacity set at 10% and varying the size, painted the color on the white areas. after painting, i added a little noise so it wouldn't be so smooth. flattened and adjusted some more with levels. |
