Default Fathers of the Bride and Groom

Hi All

This was taken at my sisters wedding back in September. I was just generally wandering around trying to take as many candid images as I could, as well as enjoy the day with her.

Any critique on the image would be good - I am still new, learning and trying to practice as much as possible. I have only had the camera a year and for most of the year I havent been able to pick it up due to work and other commitments.

With the image know the exposure wasnt quite long enough but I like the how it matches how the light was at that time (if only a touch darker). If would change anything it would be to crop that littlest part of the hotel at the top you can see but in the interest of getting critique i have posted the image as I have it on this backup. Both of these things I can do quite easily in photoshop but I want to learn to get it right with the camera, not post processing.

Focal Length: 50mm
F-Number: F/1.8
Exposure Time: 1/2500
ISO: 100

...too much sky (probably the cause of your under exposure), and not enough subject (cut off at the knees...not good to crop at a joint) 50-50 split between subjects and sky, no rule of thirds used. Sorry, but if you ask for a critique I felt compelled to tell you about these issues.

I cropped and adjusted the photo in LR, removed noise and cloned out the arm at the left of the photo.

I also decided to convert the photo to an Antique Grayscale because of the wedding attire. That often that works if a photo is not the best.

A fill flash probably would have helped since it looks as if the sun was going down at the left. So, I used fill light and warmed one photo to simulate the sunset. I cloned out some of the shine on the cheeks.

You can do much better with the high res version and ultimately sharpen as desired.

Don’t be against PS processing because, it can “save” a poor photo and can make a merely good photo a great one. In the past PS processing was done in the chemical darkroom. Nary a great photo today has not been processed. In LR adjusting and cropping can be a very quick process.
