I'm still learning too (but then aren't we all?) but I think this is perfect! I absolutely love it...those eyes and how that gorgeous blonde hair frame his face... Very very nice.

The composition is great..
I love the look on his face. A sort of half smile..
The soft natural (?) light gives his face a wonderful 3 dimensional feel.
I like that he's wearing a light jumper and the soft background is marginally darker than his features..

Why did you shoot at such a high ISO?

If you'd dropped the shutter speed to 1/60 and used a tripod, you'd have got the ISO setting to 400, and corresponding improvement in image quality. If you moved forward a little closer, then you could zoom out a little if you don't have a tripod, but a 1/60th of a second should just be fast enough to hand hold, even at 85mm.

I really like the photo though.. Compositionally, you've got it spot on in my book.

Thank you. Yes it was natural window light.

There were 3 little ones under 4 - fast little ones - lol. The light wasn't great in the room - especially as they moved around. Being new - and them fast (!) I didn't change the iso as they moved around. I don't have a tripod.

This image was taken near the window and the little boy was being thrown around by his Daddy. Unfortunately it is a very small crop of the image. It is a shame as I think they would have had this one really big.

My aim was to get very sharp eyes, so I decided to go for the higher iso to compensate for the changing light and movement.

I haven't even looked at macro yet. I thought it was for flowers, insects and very small detailed close ups?

Thank you all. Is the colour right on this one then?
