Default Newbie looking for advise...

I love photography and am currently a student at the Art Institute trying to learn all I can about this wonderful art. With the onset of less expensive SLR cameras, it seems to me the true "art" of photography is being lost within the sea of editing. With that said I look forward to your critiques and learning more about this wonderful lost art of photography!
I am really trying to learn about light and how to use it for indoor portraits without the expensive lighting set-ups for now. Any ideas or tips would be great!

This is an erroneous notion that neophyte photographers have. The “art” of photography, along with knowing one’s camera, composition, lighting, etc. is precisely also—editing. Any famous photographer of the film era has edited their pixs.

Photos have always been PS processed, first in the chemical darkroom, now in the digital “lightroom.” In fact, the type of film one used in the past and the processes in different labs gave different, manipulated results.

The greatest digital photographers all use software and most good amateurs do so also.

This thread might help:

Use PS or not? Use PS or not??
