I like it
I'm no expert, but I like it: the composition, the blank and white high key. The eyes are very "intense".

Ugh, I have one under the tree. You are unwrapping early! Looks great. I have been reading up on the nifty fifty and have heard several pro's and con's. This looks great but I am curious, how did it look in color. Or is it the lighting that is giving it the sepia effect. I don't really know what to expect!

You did a great job filling the frame and catching the expression in his eyes.

I really love this shot! I agree with brun0sa, his eyes are intense; they draw you in. I also love the contrast between the light image and his dark eyes. Excellent job!

The one thing I would suggest, is to try a centered crop. I think this is one of the times that "breaking the rule" would work really well; it would emphasize the intenseness. Maybe a centered square crop would look good.

Did I mention I love this shot?

Congrats on your new lens. I too just got a nifty fifty as an early Christmas present. Don't have a clue what I'm doing with it yet. I like your shot. Nice job!

Great shot with a great lens
Yes centering in this case would make it better.
BTW, did you do any post processing to get the highlight on the eyes? Would love to know if you dont mind sharing it...

Nice shot! You did a good job for such slow shutter speed!!! Well, the only thing I'd point is to increase exposure on the right part of the frame to reduce contrast of that chair (?).

I liked the shot!

I did A LOT of research on this lens before asking for one for Xmas. Out of a thousand reviews I bet you only 5 of them were negative. And there were only two negative things people had to say about it. 1) It can't zoom. Yes, that does suck, but in return you get much sharper images. 2) It can't auto focus with some models of Nikons. Yes, that would suck too, but I have a D90 and the D90 has auto focus capabilities with this lens. So other than those things, this is an AWESOME lens.
It didn't look that great in color because it was taken in my dimly lit living room. And as you know, lighting makes or breaks a picture. So I increased the lighting in lightroom and also messed with other settings to give it the sepia effect.

Thank you!
Yes, I did post processing in Lightroom. I used 'iris inhancing' and brought down the opacity to my liking. I also used 'dodging' on the whites of his eyes.
