Default Focus!!

We made several attempts to get this shot. Turns out, the one we like most is out of focus. (Couldn't tell from the little screen at the time)

Is there any way to fix this in post processing? I would like to crop it down but that would just make it look worse. Are there any sharpening tools that pros know about that I don't?

There are alot of things that can be fixed in post. Unfortunately something that is that far out of focus is not one of them.

Always best to get it right in camera, and you can check more accurately on your camera's LCD by zooming in on the image to get a closer look.

i hope this helps you, duplicate layer and apply high pass filter, set layer to overlay and merge. do this again, then apply unsharp mask, amount, 50, radius 1. then go to image, adjustments, brightness and contrast, and move the contrast slider a bit to the right.
this won't be perfect but will make it sharper.

Actually, it really doesn't look that bad to me. Try playing with the levels and curves a bit to bump up the contrast. Sometimes this will give the illusion of better focus. Also try some high pass sharpening with various radius sizes. You may be surprised how much it will help!

Edit: Ed beat me to it! Again! lol!

I ran it through Photoshop for enhancing the face and Topaz Detail for a slightly more subtle effect.
