First b/w conversion, comments please

I took this shot of my youngest yesterday, and because there was a big WB problem, i converted to black and white. now i have no idea what i'm doing and would be interested in comments and critiques on the conversion. or anything else- esp if i should crop differently. TIA

Personally I like the crop just fine and the softness is perfect for a baby.. the tonal range is good (from white to black).. the only thing I might suggest is a little dodging (shadows) around the eyes to bring out some detail in them and a little to lighten the dark streak in the left eyebrow.. I assume that's a scratch or something..
What did you use for the conversion - Photoshop? For your first conversion - it's a good job!

Thank you, Dave, i appreciate your comments (and compliment). i hate to say it, but i used picasa- i took the saturation slider down and then added shadows till i liked it. a touch of fill light and that was what i did. i have elements and might be able to do as you say; will have to try it
