Default Christmas photo shoot

Babysitting for a friend and decided to use little Joey as my model. Please critique the hell out of this!

I shot manual 1/200 and f2.8. Flash fired manual at 1/16 power. Shot was taken on a 50mm 1.4 (love that lens!)

What exactly are you wondering about?

Her face seems a bit too bright to me, otherwise a nice shot.

What a little cutie. She's definitely overexposed though, and the red channel is totally blown. It looks like the focus may have fallen on her shirt - her face, particularly the eyes, seem soft.

I agree that the reds were a tad high and her face was blown out. I normally underexpose faces so I forced myself to "over do it". Does this look better? I am trying to figure out whats the best exposure for a person. The focus on her face is actually tack sharp, I think the fact that it was overexposed made it look soft.

The exposure is better on the second one. The reds are still clipped, though...but I've found that red is the hardest color to photograph - it's always the first channel to blow/clip. The eyes still look soft to me, but it's hard to tell on a small image.

You might be able to pull some red out in post processing - there's a bit of magenta in her skin as well.

I agree, the eyes do look a little soft. Not much, but a little.
