Default Fall Beauty

I took this of my niece and I am looking for any improvement that I could make. I think it needs a tighter crop for sure. I ran a portrait action in PSE9 and bumped up the contrast. Did I overdo it??

Please share your thoughts on this to help me learn what I need to improve on

Thanks for taking your time to look )

Decently exposed shot, but yes, the face is very over-done. Was the original really that bad?

As far as composition goes, its great to have her to the left side, but i would have liked to have seen a landscape orientation, more space on the right, less on the top.

Skin smoothing I would say it looks good at this resolution. Doesn't look plastic to me. The white of the eyes is tad to white for me. I would make the catch lights a bit brighter too.

Rather than applying some plastic-fantastic skin smoothing, you're going to have more luck just working with the clone/heal tools. That way you'll maintain both the tone and texture of the skin.
