Hi MZak!! I always think portraitures in front of green leaves or flowers look great! It's a nice setting!

To improve, I'd try to blur the background a little more doing the following:

1) Open the apperture a little more (if your lens allows it as i think it does!).
2) Bring the girl a few steps to your direction.
3) Use a larger focal length.

Then, I'd think about displacing her a little to the corner, get down a little and/or use portrait orientation, and get down in the height of her eyes.

I'd at my tast increase exposure a little.

Hugs!

I like the background. I would say the biggest problem is she looks like she absolutely did not want her picture taken. LOL Maybe some bribery is in order next time.

A little underexposed and the background is OK, but strong colors will tend to pull the viewer's eye away from the subject so you want to be conscious of that. As mentioned by the previous poster, blurring the background more when shot would have helped. I did a quick edit on the file (hope you don't mind)..brought up the levels a bit and did a lens blur on the background. Blurs done in post never look great to me, but this'll give you some idea of what it might have looked like if done at the time of the shot. This helps separate your main subject from a little busy background

I guess my first question is do you edit in Photoshop? Levels is one of the tools available there
