Default Brick by Brick

For our 1 year anniversary my boyfriend and I took a trip to Old Town Pasadena for some gelato that was apparently the best. It was pretty freaking good, but I think I like this photograph more. This was taken in a random alley way, my boyfriend thought the brick wall was cool. Anyway! The ISO is really high for two reasons, one it was really dark, and two I was going for a little bit of an old picture/grainy look. Looking for comments on composition, but mostly color and PP. Anything else you can come up with is great too. Thanks!

camera: Canon EOS Rebel t1i
shutter: 1/10
aperture: f/4.5
ISO: 800
flash: off

The colour is great! And so is the composition. It is particularly interesting that your boyfriend is looking out of the frame which leads the eye. And good job on the gritty look!

Does the building have a bit of a bulge to it? Something about the wall is giving me a wave feeling. Looking at the sidewalk it appears as though there is some kind of deformity in the building. Obviously nothing you can do about it, but it's giving me a weird sense of motion for some reason. I do like the composition. Wouldn't mind seeing this in color. If the bricks were dull it's probably best in B&W, but if you can pull up the redness to them it might make for a cool contrast. Just trying to offer some ideas, like the picture.

Really nice shoot. Like the framing as well.
Yeah. funny with the wavy feeling. Old building? You used a wide angle, yeah?
Like the color, And good with the high iso, i agree that you got the old picture feeling. Looks retro.

i really like it as well. the brick wall and the b and w and the bit of grain all contribute to a particular feel. only thing.... here's this sort of darker, more gritty feel and this kind of tough guy- and he's licking an ice cream cone to me, that messes with the feel of the photo- ice cream being all happy and innocent- almost as if he was holding a balloon or a lollipop

I like everything about this picture. The color, the patterns, and there's drama, too. I wish I could come up with pictures like this also... you make me envious..

I have no idea what is up with the building. My lens wouldn't have anything to do with it but I noticed it while I was editing it. Maybe the building is just retarded, haha. Unfortunately because it was so dark, the redness of the bricks was lost, but it would have definitely looked cool red.

No wide angle lens. I wish I even had one :/.

I see what you mean about the ice cream and the gritty, but I think it's ironic and adds something to it. :P

I love this picture... It's great that your boyfriend is standing in (what looks like) such a 'dark' place, yet enjoying an icecream!

It's a well taken image, but honestly I'm drawn more to the window than your boyfriend.

I'd have cropped it tighter.
