Default taking in the scenery

I am new to this forum, but want to learn.
What could I have done to improve this shot?
Taken with Kodak z915, automatic settings.

I think a bit of fill flash would have helped a lot here. I'd like to be able to see the subject a little more clearly.

I agree with Dave and for some reason the girl's folded arms seem strange and stand offish to me. Did you have her pose? If so, next time try to have your subject relax or put a hand on the rail. When people have there arms crossed, they seem to be on the defense. Such a nice scenic view but she seems almost pissed off to be there. That's just my perception.

personally I don't mind dark subject. makes it more mystical and she looks angry a bit in that pose.
I think I would try to frame it to exclude the barrier and have only the girl and the view in the frame.
nice shot.

She's a teenager and it was a bit cold that day. She may have had her arms folded in an effort to warm up. I did not pose her. We were taking in the scenery that day and I saw an op for a shot and took it.

I don't think the girl/foreground being dark is a problem, but I think the outside trees lack some pop. Try some local adjustments or a grad filter to brighten up only the outside.
