My first response, as I am obsessed with eyes in portraits, is to point out that the focus on the eyes seems too soft. This could be a matter of opinion, though. Some people prefer a soft focus. I, on the other hand, think the eyes should be sharp and clear. Where was your focus when you took the picture?
I love his personality though, and the mustache is his best feature IMHO.

I see the focus issue with the eyes also, personal preference as well. Just curious, where should the focus points have been to try to get the eyes in direct focus?

thank you all for your feedback I am not too sure what I am doing yet but hope to improve.The focus comments are helpful, will try a tripod to cut down on movement or maybe a beanbag and will try to gain some insight on where to focus on the face to get a good shot.Here's to improving each time a I take a picture.
