[/url]Nov 2010 408 by meetooo, on Flickr Camera Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS Exposure 0.01 sec (1/100) Aperture f/2.0 Focal Length 50 mm ISO Speed 800 Exposure Bias 0 EV Flash Off, Did not fire Orientation Horizontal (normal) I just got a new nifty fifty lens and i was wondering if anyone could tell me why it's so soft and what i can do next time to fix it. I'm not sure it it was due to the high ISO/low shutter speed or if I'm doing something wrong with my focusing. Did I have to small (or is it high?) of an aperture? The lighting was pretty bad, indoors and it was a rainy day.

you've got a mix of soft focus and motion blur in the photo.
looking at it in large scale on flickr, you can see the motion blur on the lips of the closer girl. when working with such an open aperture (f/2) you need to be very carful with your focus point. usually with this kind of aperture you'll need to use different focus points (you can choose you focus points in your camera) and make sure that you're using the one that is closest to the object's eyes. your shutter speed is a bit slow (1/100), if you can try using at least 1/200 when photographing kids as they tend to move. you're off to a good start. practice, practice and practice and you'll get the hand of it
