The shot looks pretty good to me as far as composition. The wall on the right hand side is a bit distracting but not a photo breaker. Overall I would say it is a good photo that definite captures emotion, which is the #1 thing people want with photos of their children. No one wants a photo of a straight faced bored looking child forced to be photographed, and you did a great job of avoiding that.
One thing that I did notice that isn't absolutely necessary but could add to the photo is getting catch lights in the eyes. Catch lights can give dimension to a portrait and generally they give a more lively feel. Again, not necessary but something that can enhance a photo. |

Thanks! I was trying to use the outside light. My original plan was to have him facing more into the light, but he decided to play peek a boo behind my curtains (aka the white wall you mentioned). But yes I agree that his eyes do look a bit dull.
