Default hangin on to daddy

I know, its me again... So here is my question, does the background seem to make the whole picture way too bright? I attempted to burn it a little, but then it seemed to take away from my subjects. Am I over thinking this? Critiques on any other aspect of the photo are welcome as well. Thanks

I think it's fine, could be darker but it's ok as it is.
but that's the brightness issue.. what about the crooked horizon?
plus, I'm debating with myself regarding the composition... he is looking left and she is looking right which is the reason you've out them on the photo's left side (I guess...) but I keep on wondering what is HE looking at.

My focus was on my daughter, so that's why I have them on the far left. Do you think it would have been a bigger impact to focus more on him and the direction he was looking in (which were at the very loud seals much further off in the ocean- we were at the Aquarium in Monterey )? I thought she was more dominant in the photo which is why I followed her line of sight. I wish I had a picture using your idea, but I don't think I do. I will see what I can do to fix the horizon. I didn't think it was that noticeable, I guess I was wrong lol. Thanks for the input, very constructive.

Your daughter is adorable I think your exposure is dead on in this shot, I'm fine with the background being bright, as long as the subjects are exposed properly, which they are. The horizon straightening would be good. I do wish we could see a little bit more *connection* between your daughter and her daddy. While I'm sure you know the *story* of the photo (as you were there to shoot it!) they look a little disconnected from each other to me, I'd love to see another shot where they are interacting with each other more, or at least both looking together in the same direction...

Yeah, I wish I would have gotten a picture of them actually looking at each other. I think your right, it would tell more of a story. I'm starting to realize that it makes the photo a little unbalanced with them being so disconnected. Thank you for the insight.

Hi Courtney,
I really don't know myself. it was just a thought... maybe it would have worked better and maybe it wouldn't have.

I don't think it is unbablanced at all. It is a good photo and it is meaningful to you, that's what is most important.
