Default Boy on RR tracks

I love this picture of my nephew, but he ended up being too dark and not all that clear. The background I liked being over exposed the way it is but to expose my nephew enough for him to look light enough, the background was just way too bright. Physically turning him so the light was on him wouldn't have worked for a number of reasons, but the main one was that I didn't like the background on the other side of him. Is there a way I can get what I want without a flash? I suppose I could have tried a reflector. I finally got some but haven't used them yet. Any of you PS pro's have an idea on how I can fix this pic? I brought up the blacks and the contrast in photoshop - is it too much?

if you want you can brighten up his face in photoshop using the dodge tool or the brightness layer with a mask but to be honest, there is no need for that.
I'm looking at it and it's fine as it is and I absolutely LOVE it!
the back lightning, the composition (in so many ways) and the glowing leaf on the railroad just makes it beautiful.
great job!
