I just got my new camera (Canon D60) a few weeks ago. This picture of my nephew was taken just playing around. Unfortunately of about 30 pictures I took, this was probably the only one that looks decent! It was a candid shot. What do you think? Any pointers? How do you like the composition? Thanks for your input!

Nice shot, chubby cheeks indeed! I find that he is a little too close to the right hand edge of the frame, have you cropped at all?
If you want to improve your strike rate of decent photos have a look at the ones you didn't like - ask yourself what is wrong with them? and what could you change to improve that?

Thanks for your input! I hadn't even noticed how far it was over to the right. I was focusing more on seeing so much of his neck in the shot. And no, I didn't crop it. I think I might play around with cropping it and see what I can turn it into.
I think the reason I had so many issues with focus was because he is so active. I've discovered that it is very difficult to take pictures of young children who won't sit still! I've been playing around with my camera settings to remedy this. I've increased my shutter speed and manipulated the aperture. Are there any recommended settings for moving, active children? Of course, I know it is all subject to the situation, but just as a jumping off point? |
