for me, i had such a hard time figuring out who the subject of the photo was. once i figured out who it was, i agree with you that he's a great subject with a nice look on his face. and i love the way he is gazing off through the fence or wall... and how you gave him some nice space to look into.
although i would imagine you'd like to place him in his scene- with the other fisherpeople- to me, it's so busy that i can't get what you're after. if it were my photo, i would at least try a severe crop right behind his back and including only the fence/wall with the shadows, and nothing above his head. the shadows are great. |

I agree. A crop would look nice and really bring the effect that you're looking for. I like the shadows as well. It's almost if he belongs in the water with the fish but the bars are keeping him away. Maybe I'm reading too much into it...

I totally get where you were going with this! Well, I might have tried backing up to get all of him in the frame, and squatting down to his level so there is more of a connection with him. The vignette is too heavy I think.
