Default Starting this new venture... photography

I think I posted this in the wrong thread early, but here we go.

First of all, thanks for reading my post. My wife and I are extremely new at the photography thing. We've done a total of 2 shoots to our name. And they were for free. But, we have a passion for it and really want to pursue this as a career.

I was hoping to get some feedback from you all. I welcome the good and the bad. Our number one goal is to improve and learn from our experiences. So, your help is MUCH appreciated.

I'd love some feedback on the photos I've taken. You can see them @ www.paynedesignstudio.com/photography.shtml. Scroll down and you'll see the two shoots.

Any comments are welcome and hopefully you all will have some constructive feedback for us.

Thanks!

Derek

you might want to look over the posting guidlelines for the critique section, and edit your post accordingly, then you'll probably get feedback

Please take a look at the critique rules. This section of the forum is really about talking about a specific image not your work as a whole.

What I can tell you after viewing your work is it looks nice, I think some practice with using fill flash to help balance backgrounds more (avoid having such larger areas in the background blown out) would be helpful. From what I've seen it looks like all the images where shot with natural light which is fine but don't limit yourself to just using natural light. If you prefer natural light you can still use modifiers to help control the light better.

Also the camera tilting is kind of cliché, if it's a style you like that's fine by all means go for it but the portfolio looks very similar to 100s of other photographers out there. The poses you have look good but I've only seen "couple" pictures no family of children images yet so I'm not sure how much more refinement the poses you are using need but from the looks of it you're doing pretty well with the couple.

Default Sorry about that

Is there a different category where a body of work can be posted? I just didn't want to post 15+ different images.

Thanks for the couple pointers. I actually don't even have a flash yet as I've been short on cash. It's the next thing on my list though.

And, yeah... we've only double couples as of right now. We have a couple families lined up in a couple weeks though.

I don't really think there's an area for portfolio critiques right now. You could try sharing some of your favorite shots in the share your shots section and see where that leads you (read the share your shots section rules before posting). It's not really a critique section but often time people give you feedback anyways.
