Default His first Photo Shoot

This is my little buddies first photoshoot. When I view my raw files on my computer they look great and then never look sharp enough to me when I convert to jpg's. Am I doing something wrong or maybe my images just aren't that sharp? This is the slowest shutter speed I shot only when he was sitting still. The critique I would like is on the light spots in the background. I am nearly always shooting in a tree canopy and I think it detracts from the pictures?

Tv( Shutter Speed ) 1/50
Av( Aperture Value ) 3.5
Metering Mode Evaluative Metering
Exposure Compensation 0
ISO Speed 100
Auto ISO Speed OFF
Lens EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM
Focal Length 28.0mm

It does detract a lil bit, but I don't think it's enough to worry about. You could try rotating around him to your left some so that the darker area is directly behind him. But really I think he, and his eyes, are plenty sharp and do a good job of keeping your attention where it should be. As far as being sharper you could try bumping up your ISO some so that you can use a faster shutter speed.

Looking at the large image, the eyes are extremely sharp, and you have done a good job. The DOF when shooting 3.5 is somewhat limited, and that is why the shoe as an example is not all that sharp.... simply it is not in focus. If you want the entire subject in focus, up the ISO and go with a smaller aperture to get all of your boy in focus. Personally, the eyes are the key and you have those very sharp.

As mentioned above, the bright patch is somewhat distracting, but not enough to ruin the image.
Overall, nice image....

like others, the eyes are very good in my opinion and the light spots in the background actually add to the picture. giving it touches of a golden color and making it more interesting.
good job!
