Default Concert shots

Hi,

Completely new to all of this.. I hope I'm meeting the rules.

I just recently started trying my hand at concert photography. The pics I'd like you to check out were all taken in a small bar, with terrible lighting. I used flash in most of the shots, and used flash compensation when it seemed necessary.

I shot with a Canon 1000D; I believe all the EXIF is visible if you click for properties. All photos were tweaked using Lightroom 3. I'm linking to my site; I hope that's ok:

Chasers 10/08/10 Calabrese, The Quakes, and Surf Rats! MamaroxImages

Basically, I just want to get a sense of whether I'm working in the right direction.

Thanks so much for your time and expertise.

There are some rules posted at the top of this forum. You might want to check them out.

Having looked at the site and seen some of the images in the "full" size, there's some good and some not so good.

This one is interesting with the framing and depth of field. It would be better if you got him with his eyes open, but as far as focus and clarity, it's a good shot.

This one, however, seems like a miss. It almost looks like the focal point fell on the watch/bracelet on his wrist, so everything else is out of focus. I don't know if you cranked on the noise reduction and sharpening sliders, but there's some real oddness in the hat, both in texture and a halo effect around the edge.

Here the focus and framing are pretty good, but the red eye reduction is kind of creepy. There's this empty look to the eyes, and the one on the right still has a halo of red to it.

I think you've managed to do a decent job balancing the flash with the ambient so they don't look too bright and blown out. Just watch the details when post-processing. I think in concert shooting, a little noise/grain is probably better than blurring away the detail.

Oh, welcome to DPS.
