These look to have quite a bit of noise. The sun is working against you in the first one. It looks like it was taking midday...the best light is early morning or late afternoon. My initial suggestion based on the last two is to be aware of the background and how it interacts with your main subject. In both of these photos, the sidewalk intersects right behind his head and is distracting. Work at recognizing these distractions while looking in the viewfinder and then work on different angles or locations to avoid them.

My favorite is the first one, and i actually think you did a good job of having the sun light up his hair without his face being too dark. it's also a good shot in that you made sure of having a clean/nondistracting background. in the second shot, your inclusion of so many elements makes it hard for the viewer to really know what your subject was. i would certainly try not to have suburban housing in the background- that is just not good looking. regarding the third, i think its a pretty good shot; i wish you hadn't cut off body parts.
they all look fuzzy, as edbayani said- w/o your exif data its hard to know why- but try practicing with getting sharp focus right on the eyes when you shoot kids. don't know if you've looked over this site at all, but its chock full of helpful information about how to get great kid shots. one tip i read recently: someone asked a very talented portrait photographer what his secret was (or some such) and he said that he pays more attention to the background than to the subject. this is really helpful imo. keep at it! |
