Default father and son

Exposure 0.017 sec (1/60)
Aperture f/4.0
Focal Length 28 mm
ISO Speed 400

I captured this candid shot this morning...and in my eagerness to capture the moment the flash went off and caused all kinds of ugly shadows. What could have been done differently? Is there any way to fix it in PP (I have GIMP but don't know how to use it yet)?

A I missing any thing else about it that is blatantly obvious to everyone else (LOL)?

I don't know about everyone else, but I can't see the photo. It sounds interesting though.

Oh darn. I played with it and now it's not showing here. Ok...let me repost it. Sorry about that.

father and son

I played with the clone feature to get rid of the dark shadow that his nose was casting on his shoulder (it's a horrible job though and I need to practice more with that). I'm still interested on what could have been done better originally.

Okay, I wasn't going to post because I didn't have much to say, but no one else is. So, here we go.

First of all it's a nice picture, but I guess it just doesn't do much for me. I don't really know why. I'm sure it would if I knew them, but I don't and don't really know what is going on. It looks like either face paint, or the older one was shaving and the kid wanted to do the same. It just doesn't evoke much feeling or tell a story for me.
I'm sorry if I sound harsh, but I wanted to say something since you didn't have any replies.

I think you did quite well with the clone tool though, I wouldn't have noticed it if you hadn't pointed it out. The shadow on the boy's face looks harder to deal with though.
Great black and white conversion too, and he's really cute!

I hope you don't mind me doing this but on his shoulder (where you said you used the clone tool i'm guessing) i could still see different shade etc etc.
So here is what i have done, not much of a noticeable difference but it's something slight.

Other than that, i quite like this image, it seems like something off of a TV Programme or something, (to me anyways)

I can easily tell the story from this image. As far as removing the shadows I'm afraid I won't be much help but I did want to say that the action is evident.
