I am still very much starting out, but I would love to get insight on some recent pictures I took of my son. My flickr account is acting buggy, so I've only included one from a recent "tub time" session we had. He's backlit because I wanted an angelic sort of glow, and also he turns from the draft in his room when in the tub, so I had to deal with what he was giving me.

let me start by saying that I think it's great that you think things through before even pointing the camera ("He's backlit because I wanted an angelic sort of glow"). many photographer, and even more beginners shoot and than think so it's nice to hear that some of us out there actually think before they shoot
![]() as for the photo, his eyes are a bit soft and slightly out of focus, but you can fix that with photoshop or another editing software. the thing that bothers me the most is the cut off left arm. I don't usually mind those kind of cut off limbs but in this case you have extra space on the left so you could include his left arm as well. I think all in all you did very good even with the f/1.8 which is hard to control. btw, to create that glow affect you are talking about you'll need the back lightning to be lower behind him and a bit stronger.
