she's still wearing that doggone bangle
![]() i think what happened here is that with that very wide aperture, your depth of field was so shallow that you couldn't get both mom and baby in focus. it can be neat to, for example, get the babe in focus and mom blurry in the background, but i'm assuming you didn't want that. also, your shutter speed was so slow that it blurred the baby when she moved. and/or your hand shook a bit when you held the camera and b/c of the slow shutter speed it blurred. so you need more light, b/c you'll have to increase your f number to get them both in focus (i think i read that you should go up one stop per person in the picture), which'll make your shutter speed even slower. you can move your ISO up and/or position them nearer the light source. it looks like a window... and if you try to get the light to fall on them both, rather than having the baby in between mom and the light, then you won't get that shadow on mom's face. re composition- i wonder how it would look if you were shooting up towards their faces from down below- as they are both looking down. hope that helps! |

thanks again, kristin.
yeah, those bangles... i still dunno how to take them out in photoshop and i couldn't get a newer photo of her. i was on aperture mode, focusing on the mommy. but i will try to use manual to get them both in the focus next time and also so that i can adjust the shutter speed and ISO. thanks for the tip about the lighting and the angle. your critic sure is very helpful. i am learning so much. thanks again! |
