Default Jenn in Black Skirt

Hey All.
What do you think of pose and location.
I will be making a better version, eventually... With better tones, brighter face, and maybe making the wall behind a little nicer.

Let me know your thoughts!

Not bad! I think its is a bit angular, but it works. The only thing that jumps out at me is that her face is dark, which makes the picture about color and lines but not her. So if that's what you were going for you got it!
And on another note I really like the color scheme.

Her face is a bit dark. I'm working on learning how to do better in post.
We made do with the lighting we had, as the sun sets and it gets dark quite early here this time of year (this was shot before 7PM)

Shutter Speed:1/13 second
Aperture:F/4.0
Focal Length:35 mm
ISO Speed:640

Jim, by vertical you mean up and down? I'm not sure if I had time to get any shots like that but if I do I'll maybe post one up for ya.

Hey Mitch, I like the photo. It would probably look better if you could see her face (it's a bit dark). And I'm fairly sure that portrait orientation (vertical) would probably work better since she is standing on the stairs.

+1 for what the others said - given what you've posted recently, i thin kyour styling is great but would really benefit from better lighting - how are you lighting at the moment? Not a bash by any means, I just really like your stuff, but its lacking the drama to really consolidate it as 'next level' modern portraiture that i really feel i want to see when i look at it.

That said, don't get rid f the wall! please! i love the shabby chic.

Were I framing this, i would have put her on the right side of the frame, but assuming you don't have that option from the original set, a portrait orientation is probably the answer.

Thanks everyone. Loving the opinions.
I will grab a chance on Friday night to do some editing on that shoot and see what I can come up with to get her face brighter and maybe switch to a portrait/different camera spot.
Lighting is all currently natural light. No reflectors at the moment.
I will around Christmas time be giving myself 3 alienbees b800's... with softboxes etc.

Tonight I got a shot that might be closer to what you guys expect in modern day shots. I think you will like it. I will post it tomorrow maybe (is there a limit to how many critiques etc you post?)

Ok. So first image is a vertical one. I did my best to keep the image contrasty and a bit dark, with her face looking brighter. This is the most zoomed out vertical one I have..(45mm)
Second image is the same image as before but with some minor adjustments. I did some quick dodging on her face and neckline... (the crop is slightly different. accidental. too lazy to fix hahaha)
Third image would be my most zoomed out horizontal image. Hasn't been straightened, bit cropped off the top and bottom. Face is left original to my RAW edits.

It’s an interesting pose in an interesting venue—vertical model, horizontal lines on the building. Would perhaps be better if the face showed—unless you wanted to obscure the face?

IMHO, The shoe on her elevated left foot pointing at the sky looks odd. Next time have the model try pushing the elevated leg/foot onto her toes. This produces a nicer, dancer’s calf muscle. That elevation is why the leg looks better in heels.
