Default Should this be cropped portrait or landscape?

I took this picture at a wedding I recently attended and don't like all of the background distractions. It needs to be cropped tighter on the faces, but I can't decide if it should be cropped portrait (tall) or landscape (wide).

Thank you in advance for any and all comments, critiques, advice, suggestions, etc.

Late nite celebration

Portrait, square.

Nice shot. Weddings are exhausting and stressful for some.

I think square is going to be best. It'll be fine for web display. For framing you would have to go to the extra effort of matting it. If you need to crop it for quick simple framing you can eliminate more of the background clutter you'll need to go portrait.

I was going to see if I could use a layer mask and blur out the background so that it is less distracting. I am planning to have it matted & framed.

I'd try a layer mask and just paint the background out black, since it's so black anyway.

Please do post your finished product here

Here is my attempt to blur & blacken the background.... I need to go in and refine the edges so that it doesn't look quite so "cut out", just don't know how for sure. I think that the black background is less distracting.

Any and all feedback is welcome!
