although i really don't know what i'm doing- i think the lighting is nice- seems soft and natural, and there are no harsh shadows on his face. plus a nice look of darker one side and a bit lighter other side.

i mostly wanted to comment on what a beautiful child he is and how i really like the soulful look.

very nice composition and a cute grandson.
I think it's a bit underexposed, specially around the face.
try brightening it a bit.
other than that, I would have tried another shot while getting lower to be in his eye level.

I agree that it's underexposed. Try using a little fill-flash to eliminate the shadows around the face.

I love the light, It makes it very natural and interesting, maybe working with the exposure a bit more next time.
