Default New Set of Lights

I picked up some monolights, and I am messing around with them. Working with the stobes is a little different for me, so I am looking for feedback on the lighting. This was just shot against a concrete wall, as it is not a proper portrait, just playing with the lights.

Hey Scott, congrats on the new lights. The only lighting issue I can see is the lightest shadow on the subjects left neck/cheek area. May want to bring a little more light to the left side. Otherwise, looks great.

Nice effort, very well and evenly lit. You might want to try two things- 1. placing a light more off to the side so that you accentuate the depth of the subject with more sidelight and shadow, and 2. placing a light slightly behind, so that cast a highlight in the hair from behind instead of from the side. This is often great to do with women subjects.

Good job, though!

Looks good, nice job blending the available and artificial light.

I typed a long response, and lost it..
Basically, I think you need to work with the levels and angles more...To bring out depth...

The first shot is quite passable, perhaps a bit flat as the levels are too even...maybe more angle on the background light to bring out texture in the wall...
The second I think the balance is off and you probably used a much simpler lighting setup...result is a bit soft from the rt side, a bit strong from the left, and a bit hot sunlight (e.g. on his neck) and some softish, but distracting, shadows.
