Default First portrait

Please tell me your opinion on this one. This was my frist portrait a few months ago.
The model is my gf and I tried to give her a middle east look.
Thank you

Well, first of all, there's absolutely no light getting in her eyes. The eyes are the main part of a portrait shot. The rest of her seems lit well. Maybe next time use a bounce card to fill in the face some.

Other than that - looks good!

The light that is there is very nice. This might make for a great fill-in shot to a stronger or group of stronger images. I find the deep shadows, especially on the unlit side, to be too dominate for my tastes. ymmv.

On top of what the others said, which I agree with fully as eyes are crucial to a portrait (in my opinion), I'd say that I don't really like the skin smoothing that you did. To me it looks obvious that some PP skin smoothing was applied and (again, only my opinion), when the PP work is obvious, it's not that great.

Still, like the others, I like the light in general, very moody, though she simply needs more in her eyes. Keep it up, it's a good first effort (I'm just very picky! )

Well only hard criticism can improve things. I appreciate it. Thank you

i realize you were going for a specific look, and mood. But next time i would also try using a back light, to add a little separation from the background. (either pointed at the background, for more light, or at the back of the subject for a little glow edge that separates perfectly. Just a thought.
