I took this photo at a wedding last weekend and was wondering if anyone had any ideas how to improve this.

First idea is to read the posting rules for the critique section..
particularly about the exif info and if you have any specific questions.

Flash fired

I was looking for comments regarding the sun flare.I was aiming to get a little sun flare into the picture, but there's too much and think it spoils it slightly. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of how to reduce the impact of the sun flare in post processing.
If there wasn't any flare across some of the faces it wouldn't be too bad.

No worries, just trying to help the mods out a bit who have to remind everyone to read the rules (me included! )
As for PP out the flare, what I've done that helps, if you have Lightroom, is the Clarity slider. Bumping that up helps with reducing the haze of sunflare. Alternatively, if you're using PS or PSE (I think), you can do what is called Local Contrast Enhancement... try it out, it may help.

Otherwise, you just need to find a better angle or, shoot several version of this shot slightly changing the angle of your lens so that the flare falls on the image differently.

In the end, would have either come in closer (which also changes the angle of incoming sun) by bunching the group up so they're not simply in the "line up" sort of positions or better, get on a chair/stool/tree stump and get a slightly higher angle which, again, will change your angle a bit and still (probably) allow for flare and the resulting back light.

Oh, geeze, how'd I forget to say this first.. flash! Some flash on the subjects (or more if you already used it, it's hard to see on this small image) would really help the subjects stand out regardless of the flare.

Good luck!

Fill flash would have helped, but since you had your camera set to auto mode, I doubt you would still have a usable image.

Auto mode combined with shooting into the sun usually wont work.

I think the earlier posts already hit the nail on the head. I am thinking about how to save the shot. Try adding some fill in post processing.

You could divide it into two layers. Under expose for the background and espose the other for the faces. Mask to bring the two together.

The lens flare on the lady next to the bride, and the streak of light going thru the ladies face holding the baby would be nearly impossible.

Although I've not seen a full resolution copy of the image.

When you say "auto mode" do you mean Full Automatic, or Aperture Priority which is the mode I was using?

Thanks for the advice, that's what I thought too. Was worth asking though.

You know, this could be seen as rather creative, if you do some PS processing.

It’s love to try it if you permit downloading in Flickr.
