Default Handsome Little Baby Boy

Hi, I am new to this and i have recently discovered my passion for photography. I recently got my first slr digital camera and ever since have been exploring it. I would really appreciate if you kind people couls critique my photo. Tell me what could i have done to have gotten a better focused, sharp image.

EXIF:
Shutter Speed - 1/64 sec
Aperture - F/5.7
Flash - No Flash
Focal - 55mm
Exposure - 1/60 sec
Iso - 200
Canon Eos 1000D

it looks like the focus landed on the zipper instead of his eyes.
when photographing people, always try to get the eyes in focus.
when someone looks at a portrait he is immediately drawn to the eyes.
other than that, I wouldn't crop it so tight, leave a little room on the sides and top.

first of all.. very cute kid!

i agree, the focus is off ...
not knowing that camera, but check your setting on how you want the camera to choose the spot it focuses, in this case i bet that its set for closest subject, as the #10 and zipper are a little closer

compositionally... yes, leave a little room... trust me, i love the full out head shot very tight crop, but... leave some negative space too

I think there may be camera shake involved.

I would suggest that apart from just ht efocus points also try and get you shutter speed up a little - 1/100th
